(ALLEN, KENTUCKY) Brandon Kinzer kicked off his 2007 racing season
over the weekend at the Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama.
The Allen, Kentucky native timed his Kinzer Drilling Company / Eastco
Supply / Quality Oil & Gas / Art's Radiator & Welding /
Commonwealth Chiropractic Center #18 GRT machine in eighth fastest
during qualifying on Saturday, January 6 for the annual 'Ice Bowl,'
which gave Brandon the inside second row starting spot in the fifth
heat race.
BK had a good run going at the drop of the green flag in his heat,
but was involved in a first-lap incident that took him out of contention
for the weekend. As Brandon battled hard for the second spot on
the bottom of the racetrack, a competitor squeezed him into the
inside retaining wall, causing them both to spin.
"It just wasn't our weekend, I guess," Kinzer was quoted
as saying today. "I timed in decent during qualifying and had
a really good run on the front two guys at the outset of the heat
race. I was on the bottom, which was the preferred line, and I just
got pinched down into the wall and it caused us both to spin out.
The officials sent me to the tail and the car was toed-out, so we
just decided to load it up for the weekend."
The Kinzer Motorsports team will take the next month or so off
from Dirt Late Model competition before invading the Volusia Speedway
Park in Barberville, Florida from February 12-17. Three $5,000 to
win shows will be held at the Daytona Beach area oval from February
12-14, while the Dirt Late Model portion of 'Raceweeks 2007' will
conclude with a trio of $10,000 to win events. More information
